Description
The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) seeks a dedicated Physical Therapist for our Inpatient Department within Healthcare & Medical Services. In this full-time role, you will evaluate, plan, and implement evidence-based treatment programs to improve patient mobility, function, and quality of life. MUSC offers rich opportunities for professional growth, involvement in research, education, and quality improvement, while fostering diversity, inclusion, and strong community engagement.Perform comprehensive inpatient physical therapy evaluations for adult and geriatric patients with medically complex and post-surgical conditions
Develop and implement individualized, evidence-based plans of care to improve mobility, function, and safety
Provide therapeutic interventions including gait training, balance and fall prevention, therapeutic exercise, and functional mobility training
Collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, case managers, and other rehabilitation professionals to coordinate patient-centered care
Educate patients and families on safe mobility, use of assistive devices, home exercise programs, and post-discharge recommendations
Participate in discharge planning by providing recommendations for post-acute services, equipment, and support needs
Document evaluations, daily treatments, and progress notes accurately and efficiently in the electronic medical record
Monitor patient responses to therapy, including vital signs and tolerance to activity, and adjust interventions accordingly
Adhere to hospital safety protocols, infection control standards, and safe patient handling procedures
Contribute to quality improvement, clinical education, and, as appropriate, research initiatives within the inpatient rehabilitation service
Inpatient physical therapy evaluation and treatment
Development and implementation of individualized care plans
Interdisciplinary care coordination
Functional mobility and gait training
Post-surgical and acute care rehab interventions
Therapeutic exercise prescription
Patient and family education
Electronic medical record (EMR) documentation
Discharge planning and recommendations for post-acute care
Outcome measurement and evidence-based practice
Safe patient handling and transfer techniques
Time management in fast-paced inpatient settings
Clinical reasoning and differential assessment
Vital sign monitoring during activity

Current South Carolina Physical Therapist license or eligibility for licensure prior to start date
Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) from CAPTE-accredited program (or equivalent entry-level PT degree)
Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
Previous inpatient or acute care clinical rotation or experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with EMR systems in hospital settings
Specialty certification in neurologic, geriatric, or cardiopulmonary PT preferred but not required
