Description
Founding Program Director – Family Medicine Residency
Carson Tahoe Health
Carson City, Nevada (Near Lake Tahoe!)
Carson Tahoe Health (CTH) is actively developing and expanding its Graduate Medical Education (GME) framework—highlighted by its Family Medicine residency initiative—as a key pillar of its 2025–2030 Strategic Plan to address regional physician shortages in Northern Nevada. Recently, the Nevada Health Authority has provided more than $15.7 million in GME grants to support specialized medical training programs across the state to strengthen the physician workforce and improve access to care for Nevadans.
Nevada has fewer primary care physicians per capita than the national average, with shortages that are especially pronounced in rural and frontier communities. Carson Tahoe Health, the region’s healthcare provider of choice, provides comprehensive family medicine and primary care services across Northern Nevada, including locations in Carson City, Reno, Dayton, and Minden.
Carson Tahoe Health is seeking a visionary academic physician leader (MD, DO) to build and contribute to the strategic development of the inaugural Family Medicine Residency Program in Carson City, NV. The anticipated launch date for the fully sponsored Family Medicine Residency Program is expected to begin July 2028 and will accept 5 residents per year.
The Family Medicine Residency Program Director will lead the application process for accreditation. The individual will oversee the 3-year program that provides high-quality clinical experiences for residents, with unique opportunities including extensive training, service, and advanced educational experiences in alignment with its mission-driven priorities.
The Program Director will have a strong interest and experience in teaching residents or fellows in GME and will play a vital role in shaping the future legacy of our community-based residency program, ensuring its success. The foundational program will have a full-time coordinator to support the operations. This GME partnership continues to build and train in the highly competitive region, with the goal of retaining physicians, expanding access to quality care in both urban & rural areas and underserved communities, and by positioning Carson Tahoe Health as a major teaching hospital.
